NPORS Shoring (Install, Inspect, Remove)

Description

COURSE CONTENT:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities regarding shoring installation, inspection and removal
  • Have a knowledge of the equipment to be used. Be conversant with Method Statements, Risk Assessments and Permits to Work
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for use
  • Ensure all pre-excavating checks including exploratory tasks have been carried out and agree emergency procedures
  • Be able to identify installation requirements including resources required and manufacturers information
  • Identify the risks that excavations can present and how people may be affected
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area and visually inspect excavations prior to entry
  • Identify ground conditions, ground water conditions, soil, sand, clays, and gravel types and how they affect ground stability
  • Identify the risks of excavating near to underground services and the safe digging practices that should be adopted
  • Install, maintain and remove timber, steel and proprietary support systems
  • Use appropriate access equipment to ensure safe access and egress into the excavation and prevent unauthorised access
  • Support excavations with traditional and proprietary systems
  • Understand the implications of working in confined spaces and working at height
  • Environmental conditions
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
