NPORS Gritter / Snowplough

Description

Course Objectives:

At the end of this course, delegates will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

  • Understand the industry, the dangers of working in the industry, and their responsibilities as an operator.
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturers' handbook for the machine being used.
  • Identify the major components of the gritter & snowplough and explain their functions.
  • Locate and identify key controls and explain their functions.
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturers' and legislative requirements.
  • Identify and maintain appropriate PPE for gritter & snowplough use.
  • Conduct necessary safety checks at the work area.
  • Prepare the gritter & snowplough for use and operate safely and efficiently.
  • Attach and set trailers, mounted, and PTO drives ready for operation.
  • Consider environmental factors in operation.
  • Ensure proper storage and transport of implements and attachments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
  • Carry out all end-of-shift and shut-down procedures.
