NPORS Refuse Collection Vehicle

Description

 COURSE CONTENT:

At the end of the course of training the trainee operator will be able to answer questions and perform the following: 

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a refuse collection
    operator.
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used.
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for a refuse collection operator.
  • Conduct all pre-operational and running checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements.
  • Manual handling specific to handling of waste containers.
  • Waste acceptance criteria.
  • Working with a crew.
  • Basic banksman signalling.
  • Health and hygiene.
  • Configure vehicle for travel.
  • Travelling on various terrain.
  • Operating in restricted areas.
  • Empty bins safely
  • Depositing waste in landfill and transfer stations.
  • Carry out end of shift shut down procedures.
