NPORS Safety at Street and Road Works

COURSE CONTENT:

At the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the industry, the dangers of working in it, and their responsibilities as a roadworks operative.
  • Have a working knowledge of the Safety at Street Works & Roadworks Code of Practice and be able to reference it.
  • Understand permits, traffic risk assessment, and on-site paperwork.
  • Identify and locate the correct PPE & equipment required for the road type and explain its use.
  • Identify various road types and reference them in the ACOP (Approved Code of Practice).
  • Conduct pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturers, Department of Transport, and legislative requirements on equipment identified in the ACOP.
  • Configure the vehicle ready for setting up works on the carriageway, walkway, verge, etc.
  • Set out the required equipment as per the ACOP and traffic management risk assessment on the work site in the correct order & position.
  • Conduct pre-use checks on traffic signals, including stop/go boards.
  • Check and enter the correct settings on traffic signals for the road type.
  • Set up traffic signals using the correct method.
  • Check for correct setup, including the correct workspace for any vehicles after setting up works before commencing operations.
  • Position vehicles correctly & safely on the work site.
  • Remove traffic signals and all other equipment after work using correct & safe methods.
  • Conduct post-use checks on equipment, identifying faults.
  • Refuel or recharge traffic signals when necessary.
  • Report any faults found and remove defective equipment from service.
