NPORS Plant Inspector – Thorough Examination
Description
COURSE CONTENT:
This NPORS N039 Plant Inspector training course covers, but is not limited to, the following areas:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry: The dangers of working in the industry and their roles and responsibilities for performing plant inspection tasks
- Specific knowledge taught: Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbooks or
guidelines for the equipment to be used and have an understanding of PUWER, LOLER, Working at
height, Stored energy, Risk assessment and awareness of British and International Standards - Operate and set up equipment: Safely in accordance with the manufacturer’s handbooks, load
charts and safe working practices - Perform and participate in a toolbox talk with team and communicate the control measures written
within the risk assessment - Perform and report using inspection checklists and procedures for: Equipment – walk-round checks,
pre-start checks, running checks and documentation checks - Carrier / Chassis on equipment used: Motive power – ICE, battery, dual, cooling systems,
lubrication systems, air intake, hydraulics, drive train, wheeled, tracks - Superstructure equipment covered: Hydraulics, articulated booms, scissors, telescopic, fixed
booms, winches, slew rings, hook blocks, carrier basket, hoist ropes, quick hitches, buckets, forks,
leaf chains - Thorough visual / function examination completed in accordance with LOLER & PUWER, lift trucks,
earthworks plant, cranes, MEWPs, structures - Load testing completed in accordance with LOLER & PUWER for lift trucks, earthworks plant,
cranes, MEWPs, structures - Safely and accurately use measuring equipment and record findings on: Load monitoring, DPI
gauge, leaf chain gauge, hydraulic pressure gauge, Vernier gauges, plant RCI / LMI systems - Specific inspections covered: Emergency lowering devices, crane RCI system, deflection tests on
structures, pad eye overload testing, slew ring rocking motions, track tolerances, leaf chain
measurements, fork arms - Demonstration and awareness by instructor on NDT/E methods: MT, PT, UT, RT, ET, visual
inspection of welds - Demonstrate good end of shift procedures: housekeeping, removing signs, barriers and obstructions
used in the task and participate in a debrief meeting
